DTC Troubleshooting: 46, 47 (Except HATC Model)

DTC Troubleshooting: 46, 47

DTC: 46 and 47  Motor Relay Stuck ON or Stuck OFF


1.Clear the DTC.

2.Start the engine.

Does the EPS indicator come on?


YES - Go to 3.


NO - The system is OK at this time.n


3.Stop the engine, and verify the DTC.

Is DTC 46 or 47 indicated?


YES - Go to 4.


NO - Perform the appropriate troubleshooting for the code indicated.n


4.Make sure the ignition switch is OFF, then remove the motor relay and test it.

Is the relay OK?


YES - With the motor relay removed, and go to 5.


NO - Replace the motor relay (Replace the motor relay and EPS control unit together as a set).n


5.Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

6.Disconnect the EPS control unit connector A (4P).

7.Check for continuity between the EPS control unit connector A (4P) terminal No. 3 and the motor relay 4P connector terminal No. 3.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 8.


NO - Repair open in the GRN wire between the  EPS control unit and motor relay.n

8.Disconnect the motor 2P connector.

9.Check for continuity between the motor relay 4P connector terminal No. 1 and motor 2P connector terminal No.1 (RHD: No. 2)

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 10.


NO - Repair open in the WHT/RED wire between the motor and motor relay.n


10.Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

11.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

12.Measure the voltage between the motor relay 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.

 

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Repair short to power in the + circuit wire between the motor relay and motor.n


NO - Go to 13.


13.Measure the voltage between the motor relay 4P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground.

 

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Repair short to power in the + circuit wire between the motor relay and motor.n


NO - Go to 14.

14.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

15.Check for continuity between the motor relay 4P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short to body ground in the GRN wire between the  EPS control unit and motor relay.n


NO - Go to 16.


16.Check for continuity between the motor relay 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short to body ground in the WHT/RED wire between the motor and motor relay.n


NO - Go to 17.

17.Start the engine.

18.Measure the voltage between the motor relay 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.

 

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Go to 19.


NO - Repair short or open in the PNK/BLU wire between the  EPS control unit and motor relay.n


19.Stop the engine, and the ignition switch OFF.

20.Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

21.Disconnect the EPS control unit connector B (14P).

22.Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

23.Start the engine.

24.Measure the voltage between the motor relay 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.

 

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Repair short to power in the + circuit wire between the  EPS control unit and motor relay.n


NO - Go to 25.

25.Stop the engine and the ignition switch OFF.

26.Check for continuity between the motor relay 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short to body ground in the PNK/BLU wire between the  EPS control unit and motor relay.n


NO - Go to 27.


27.Check for continuity between the motor relay 4P connector terminal No. 4 and body ground.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Check for loose EPS motor control unit connectors, motor connector and motor relay connector. If necessary, substitute a known-good  EPS control unit and recheck.n


NO - Repair open in the BLK wire between the motor relay and body ground (G451).n
