SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 12-9x

DTC 12-9x (‘‘x'' can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):
Short to Ground in the Driver's Airbag Inflator (RHD model)
NOTE:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
Is DTC 12-9x indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 4 .
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Measure the resistance between the No. 5 and the No. 6 terminals of SRS unit connector A (39P) and body ground. There should be 0−1.0 Ω.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to Step 8 .
NO -
Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit.

  1. Measure the resistance between the No. 5 and the No. 6 terminals of SRS unit connector A (39P) and body ground. There should be 0−1.0 Ω.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to Step 10 .
NO -
Faulty driver's airbag; replace the driver's airbag.

  1. Remove the column cover , then disconnect the dashboard wire harness 4P connector (A) from the cable reel.

  1. Measure the resistance between the No. 5 and the No. 6 terminals of SRS unit connector A (39P) and body ground. There should be 0−1.0 Ω.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Short to ground in the dashboard wire harness: replace the dashboard wire harness.■
NO -
Short to ground in the cable reel; replace the cable reel.
