DTC Troubleshooting: B1283

DTC B1283:
 Front Wiper LOW Position Circuit Malfunction
  1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then back to ON (II).
  1. Operate each windshield wiper switch position, then turn the wiper/washer switch OFF.
  1. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1283 indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 5 .
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.■
  1. Select WIPER from the BODY ELECTRICAL menu.
  1. Check each windshield wiper switch position value with the DATA LIST menu.

    When the windshield wiper switch is OFF:

    Data List
    Value
    Windshield Wiper Switch (LOW)
    OFF
    Windshield Wiper Switch (HIGH)
    OFF
    Windshield Wiper Switch (MIST)
    OFF
    Windshield Wiper Switch (INT)
    OFF

Are all data list values indicated OFF?
YES -
Go to Step 15 .
NO -
Go to Step 7 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch 8P connector.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Select WIPER from the BODY ELECTRICAL menu.
  1. Check each windshield wiper switch position value with the DATA LIST menu.

Are all data list values indicated OFF?
YES -
Replace the wiper/washer switch.■
NO -
Go to Step 12 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Disconnect under-dash fuse/relay box connector M (34P).
  1. Check for continuity between under-dash fuse/relay box connector M (34P) No. 10, No. 11, and No. 12 terminals and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair a short to ground in the wire.■
NO -
  1. Check each windshield wiper switch position value with the DATA LIST menu.

    When the windshield wiper switch is ON (LOW):

    When the windshield wiper switch is ON (HIGH):

Are all data list values correct?
YES -
NO -
Go to Step 16 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
Is the wiper/washer switch OK?
YES -
Go to Step 18 .
NO -
Replace the wiper/washer switch.■
  1. Disconnect under-dash fuse/relay box connectors M (34P) and Q (16P).

  1. Check for continuity between under-dash fuse/relay box connector M (34P) terminals and the windshield wiper/washer switch 8P connector terminals as shown:
