Idle Speed Inspection (L12A/L13A 5MT without ETCS)

Idle Speed Inspection

NOTE:

1.Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve 2P connector.

2.Connect a tachometer (A) to the test tachometer connector (B), or connect the Honda PGM Tester (C) or a scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) (D) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

 

 

3.Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm (min-1) with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

4.Check the idle speed with no-load conditions: headlights, blower fan, rear defogger, radiator fan, and air conditioner are not operating.

Idle speed should be:
L12A1 engine: 
 700±50 rpm (min-1) 
L13A1, L13A2 engine: 

M/T 650±50 rpm (min-1) 
A/T 750±50 rpm (min-1) (in Park or neutral) 


5.Idle the engine for 1 minute with heater fan switch on HI and air conditioner on, then check the idle speed.

Idle speed should be:
L12A1 engine: 
 850±50 rpm (min-1) 
L13A1, L13A2 engine: 

M/T 850±50 rpm (min-1) 
A/T 850±50 rpm (min-1) (in Park or neutral) 


NOTE: If the idle speed is not within specification, see the Symptom Troubleshooting Index.

6.Reconnect the EVAP canister purge valve 2P connector.

NOTE: You can use the scan tool or Honda PGM Tester to inspect idle speed.
