Interlock System - Key Interlock System Circuit Troubleshooting (CVT)

Interlock System - Key Interlock System Circuit Troubleshooting

1.Disconnect the key switch connector.

2.Check for continuity between key switch connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with the ignition key keeps in the key cylinder.

Is there continuity?

YES - Go to 3.

NO - Faulty the key switch. Replace the ignition key cylinder/steering lock assembly.n

3.Check for continuity between key switch connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.

Is there continuity?

YES - Go to 4.

NO - Repair open in the wire between key switch connector terminal No. 2 and ground (G401), or repair poor ground (G401).n

4.Check for continuity between key switch connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.

Is there continuity?

YES - Repair short to ground in the wire between key switch connector terminal No. 1 and gauge assembly connector.

NO - Go to 5.

5.Disconnect gauge assembly connector A (30P).

6.Check for continuity between key switch connector terminal No. 1 and gauge assembly connector terminal A5.

Is there continuity?

YES - Go to 7.

NO - Repair open in the wire between key switch connector and gauge assembly connector.n

7.Connect the battery positive terminal to key switch connector terminal No. 4, and connect the battery negative terminal to the terminal No. 3, then check that the key interlock solenoid operates.

Does the key interlock solenoid operate properly?

YES - Go to 8.

NO - Faulty the key interlock solenoid. Replace the ignition key cylinder/steering lock assembly.n

8.Turn the ignition switch ACC (I).

9.Measure the voltage between key switch connector terminal No. 4 and body ground.

Is there battery voltage?

YES - Go to 10.

NO - Check for blown No. 17 fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box. If the fuse is OK, repair open or short in the wire between key switch connector terminal No. 4 and gauge assembly connector.n

10.Measure the voltage between gauge assembly connector terminal B7 and body ground.

Is there voltage?

YES - Go to 11.

NO - Repair open or short in the wire between gauge assembly connector and the under-dash fuse/relay box.n

11.Connect key switch connector.

12.Measure the voltage between gauge assembly connector terminal B2 and body ground.

Is there battery voltage?

YES - Go to 13.

NO - Repair open or short in the wire between the key interlock solenoid connector and gauge assembly connector.n

13.Check for continuity between gauge assembly connector terminal B14 and body ground while the shift lever is in [P] position, and when the shift lever in any position other than [P] and [N].

Is there continuity while the shift lever is in [P] position, and no continuity when the shift lever in any position other than [P] and [N]?

YES - Faulty key interlock system circuit in the gauge assembly, replace the gauge assembly.n

NO - Repair open in the ATP P wire between gauge assembly connector terminal B14 and the  transmission range switch.n
